What happened to the duck?

I am absolutely shocked, stunned and amazed. I just found out that the Aflac duck was fired! Yep, it's true. Well actually it was his voice that was fired after comedian Gilbert Gottfried made some derogatory comments on his twitter account concerning the earthquake disaster in Japan. Best known for his trademark comedic persona of speaking in a loud, grating tone of voice, his is the voice of Iago the parrot in the Disney movie Aladdin.
Aflac's statement is this, "Gilbert's recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac. There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times".
So, the spokesperson for Aflac is no longer the voice of the company because he wasn't a good representative of the company. What a great reminder that we too, are spokespersons for the kingdom and the King. The way we live, drive, act, behave, the comments we post on facebook, all reflect to the world who and what we are. I wonder, could you be fired as God's spokesperson? Just saying....

The "Best Before Date"

One of the duties I have when grocery shopping with Donna is to check the "Best Before Date". Whether it's a bottle, can, carton, box or frozen food, I diligently search and scour for this very important date. With all the political unrest going on in our world and especially the Middle East, weird weather patterns, destructive earthquakes and resulting tsunami's, there is growing speculation as to whether or not these are heralds that the end is near. I've even seen a billboard and a nicely decorated van around town with warnings that the end of the world will occur on May 21, 2011. Nice try! I don't know when and neither does anybody else. I don't know if all the events that are going on around the world are harbingers of a coming apocalypse, but I do know that this world does have a "Best Before Date" and it's probably a very good idea to have your life in order and be ready for His coming before this date....after all, "No man knows..."

Earthquake, Tsnuami and Japan

My heart has gone out to the people of Japan. It's been tough to see the widespread devastation and destruction. And most recently the radiation threat. I heard a news commentator say that the USA has certainly been very fortunate not to have this happen here. I heard another say we have been blessed. When I think about the word "blessed" I can't help but think about God's favor.  Let's face it, we live in a fallen world that is slowly and methodically heading for it's collision date with God. Yes, we are blessed that we have avoided what has happened in Japan. I hope and pray that if that kind of calamity ever comes to this shore, that we will have the faith and trust in God to see us through. Carpe Diem.
